The Registry publishes a series of indexes listing records held in Western Australia, which are accessible for free online searching.
Free online searching of Western Australian birth, death and marriage indexes is available for the following ranges of years:
You can also purchase a certificate, using the 'order' option alongside the search result. This will pop up a new window with an order form (PDF).
For full details, see How to obtain a certificate from the index or go to Searching Western Australian Online Indexes to start searching.
When searching indexes, a number of possible entries relating to the same name may be returned. For a fee, these registrations can be checked to see if any relate to your family tree. A copy of the correct certificate can then be obtained for the scheduled fee.
To request certificates, use the order form option within the free online searching service or complete the birth, death or marriage certificate application form (see downloads below).
A reduced fee applies if the event was registered more than 75 years ago and you quote the registration number, year and district*. If this index information is not quoted, the full certificate fee applies.
* Quoting of the registration district is only required for births, deaths and marriages from 1906 onwards.
Certificates are available to the public and customer identification is not required for births that occurred more than 75 years ago, deaths that occurred more than 25 years ago or marriages that occurred more than 60 years ago.
Note: Applications cannot be submitted by fax, email, telephone or online.
Application forms can be posted with a cheque or money order to:
